Time for Japanese Tea
Chopstix loves an afternoon tea as much as the next person in Hong Kong – ie a lot. There are few finer foodie pleasures than dinky cucumber sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and mini pastries as far as Chopstix is concerned.
So we blanch a little at the mention of a zany variation on afternoon tea. But we stand corrected after trying the new Nobu Japanese T-Set.
Available at weekends only at Nobu in the Intercontinental hotel Hong Kong, the T-Set comprises savoury (unami) and sweet dishes and comes with a choice of five fine Japanese green teas.
Without giving too much away, there are a number of surprises including Hokkaido cheese and an excellent Taomogoyaki (egg dish). A particular highlight for Chopstix was the Amai Spoon – a dome of pink sakura mousse atop lychee jelly. And how is it possible for a Japanese chef to come up such a fantastic chocolate mousse cake?
Chopstix still loves a traditional afternoon tea but this makes a refreshing and fun change.
